1. Repair of Partial Atrioventricular Septal Defect via Vertical Right Axillary Thoracotomy (VRAT) in Eleven-Year-Old [5]

In this recent, popular video, the authors demonstrate how they use a vertical right axillary thoracotomy to repair an atrioventricular septal defect—a common congenital heart defect. By using a minimally invasive technique, the surgeons ensure a faster recovery with less postoperative pain.

2. Unroofing of Anomalous Right Coronary Artery [8]

Although congenital heart defects are more commonly found in children under one year of age, some patients can live long lives without their heart defect causing a problem. In a rare adult congenital procedure, this video shows surgeons correcting an anomalous origin of a right coronary artery in a sixty-year-old woman with a six-month history of angina. 

3. Resection of Cor Triatriatum Dexter via Vertical Right Axillary Thoracotomy in an Infant [14]

The patient in this video began experiencing cyanosis at eight weeks old and was diagnosed with a patent foramen ovale extending from the mouth of the inferior vena cava (IVC) to just below the superior vena caval (SVC) junction. The surgical team used a vertical right axillary thoracotomy to repair the defect. 

4. Multidisciplinary Approach to Aneurysmal Anomalous Systemic Artery to Normal Lung: A Case Report [15]

This case demonstrates how congenital defects can extend to arteries beyond the heart. In a rare case of isolated anomalous systemic arterial supply to normal lung (ISSNL), the anomalous artery occurs from the abdominal aorta. The team treated this unique defect using a multidisciplinary approach including lobectomy, which is shown in the video.

5. Cone Repair for Ebstein's Anomaly in a Ten-Year-Old Girl [19]

Finally, this video demonstrates another patent foramen ovale repair, along with repair of enlarged right atrial and ventricular chambers. These common characteristics of Ebstein’s anomaly were treated using the cone repair method, an approach that is effective in restoring ventricular function.
