Introducing the NEW Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery
MMCTS: The World’s First Online CT Surgery Manual
The Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (MMCTS) was launched in 2005 by the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, with the vision of delivering high-quality education to all surgeons, regardless of society membership, nationality, or skills level. In the words of founding editor Marko Turina, “Our plan was that MMCTS would provide surgical education to the whole world of cardio-thoracic surgery. Anybody could access MMCTS, anywhere – in the office, at home, or in the operating room – and the education would be free of charge.”
Since its birth, MMCTS has established its reputation as the world’s only free expert-authored and -reviewed online surgical reference. Its authors include today’s global leaders in cardio-thoracic surgery, and it is relied upon by surgeons everywhere to learn about unfamiliar procedures and brush up on familiar ones.
The New MMCTS
MMCTS has now been relaunched with an entirely new video-focused design and structure. The site has been rebuilt from the ground up – it is more like a reference work and less like a journal. The new design is crisp and modern, the structure is clear, and it is simple to navigate. And, because the editors understand that surgery is not an office-based business, it works just as well on a smartphone or tablet as it does on a desktop.
The MMCTS editors-in-chief, Roberto Lorusso and René Prêtre, have chosen to temporarily archive pre-2012 content - the quality of online video has vastly improved since MMCTS’s founding and those older tutorials need updating. Over the coming months, MMCTS will be working to restore the archived tutorials and publish many new ones. The aim is total comprehensiveness – complete coverage of all cardiothoracic surgery procedures, from the fundamentals and core skills to advanced procedures and intricate surgeries for rare disorders.
MMCTS hopes that you will enjoy using the new site. If you would like to contribute a new tutorial, please email MMCTS at editors@mmcts.org.
