In March 2015, the first successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was performed at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. In this interview, recorded via Google Hangouts, Joel Dunning talks with Atiq Rehman of Lourdes Health System, NJ, and Kamran Baig of Trent Cardiac Centre, UK, about this development. Dr. Rehman and Dr. Baig discuss the first case and the AFIC TAVR program. They also reflect on the challenges of performing TAVR in Pakistan, and the future of TAVR in developing nations.
