At the 10th Annual International Coronary Congress, Dr. Marisa Cevasco delivered a presentation on “How I Use the Impella for On-Pump CABG in Patients With Low EF: Insertion, Intraoperative Management, and Weaning/Removal.” She explained her technique using two real-life cases and discussed specific details of the procedures, including the Impella insertion via the axillary approach, intraoperative management, weaning and removal of the device, and what was learned from these cases. She discussed the benefits of CABG over medical therapy in patients with low LVEF, current options for post-cardiotomy shock (PCCS) when inotropes and pressors are not enough, who is at risk for coming out on high-dose inotropes and who could benefit from support, and considerations for low EF CABG.
