Research

I am a trained Cardiothoracic Surgeon from India with further training and passing FRCS in the UK. I work as a Consultant Heart-Lung transplant and cardiac surgeon at Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. In my previous job at Harefield Hospital spanning over a decade, I was a part of an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative team where I assisted and performed heart and lung transplants, and short and long-term mechanical circulatory assist devices. I was an independent retrieval surgeon with experience of ex-vivo perfusion in the heart and lungs. I shared the institution's experience through oral and poster presentations on various international platforms and published 15 original articles, 4 reviews, 5 videos, and 23 How I Do It articles as a first author. With my ever-supportive colleagues, I also published book chapters on key topics in mechanical circulatory support and published a book on Cystic Fibrosis in the role of Chief Editor. At Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Glasgow as a Locum Consultant Cardiac and Retrieval Surgeon  I  performed routine cardiac surgeries (CABG and AVRs).  I am also involved in the heart transplant and mechanical circulatory assist. With my experience of surgical implantation of the Impella 5.0 at Harefield, I played an instrumental role in establishing that program in Golden Jubilee, Glasgow. I also perform complex organ procurements involving normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and organ perfusion using the Organ Care System and EVLP.  I have refined the technique of heart and lung retrieval with NRP with a focus on blood conservation, which has been acknowledged at the national level and is published in the Journal of Heart Lung Transplantation (JHLT) and the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS).
I am faculty for the annual NHSBT Retrieval masterclass as well as for the quarterly held ECMO course in Golden Jubilee, Glasgow. I have also delivered 32 invited/guest lectures in the UK and abroad. I have signed off 12 surgeons including fellows and consultants for organ retrieval, OCS as well as DCD heart retrieval.
