2024 TSF Awards Program – Now Accepting Applications!
Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF) awards in the areas of cardiothoracic surgery research, education, leadership, and surgical outreach. Visit the TSF website to view eligibility criteria and apply for funding. The deadline for most awards is September 15, 2023.
The 2024 TSF Awards Program includes:
Research
- STS Research Award – Up to $90,000 per year for 2 years
- TSF Research Award – Up to $85,000 per year for 2 years
- TSF Resident Research Fellowship – Up to $60,000 per year for 2 years
- Nina Starr Braunwald Research Fellowship – Up to $55,000 per year for 2 years
- TSF/STSA Resident Research Award – Up to $40,000 per year for 2 years
- AstraZeneca Lung Cancer Research Award – Up to $50,000 per year for 2 years
- AstraZeneca Reversing Health Disparities in Lung Cancer Research Award – Up to $50,000 per year for 2 years
- New! STS Database Clinical Research Fellowship – Up to $80,000 for 1 year
Education
- TSF/Francis Fontan Fund International Traveling Fellowship – Up to $20,000
- TSF/Francis Fontan Fund International Traveling in Partnership with LACES – Up to $11,000
- Michael J. Davidson Structural Heart Fellowship – Up to $17,500
- Nicholas Kouchoukos Award – Up to $10,000
- New! Douglas Mathisen Traveling Fellowship in General Thoracic Surgery – Up to $20,000
- Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship – Up to $10,000
- Robert L. Replogle Traveling Fellowship – Up to $10,000
- Sarns Terumo Perfusion Education Fellowship – Up to $10,000
- Levi Watkins Innovation and Leadership Development Scholarship – Up to $5,000
- Underrepresented Robotic General Thoracic Surgeon Development Award – Up to $10,000
- Advanced Robotic Cardiac Surgery Fellowship* - Up to $25,000

- TSF Alley-Sheridan Scholarship* – $2,500 per scholarship offered toward two programs:
Leadership Program in Health Policy Management at Brandeis University
Surgeons as Educators Course hosted by the American College of Surgeons
Surgical Outreach and Travel Scholarships
- TSF Every Heartbeat Matters Awards – Up to $35,000
- TSF International Medical Volunteer Scholarships* – $2,500
- Saha Scholarships to 2024 STS Annual Meeting* – Up to $3,075
- TSF Travel Scholarships to 2024 STS/EACTS Latin America Cardiovascular Surgery Conference* – $1,250
