Curriculum Information
The Thoracic Surgery residency is a comprehensive 2-year cardiothoracic fellowship program. The 10 faculty members run 3 busy services that cover the gamut of cardiothoracic surgery procedures and diseases. The 1st year begins with a 3-month focus on pediatric cardiac surgery followed by 6 months on general thoracic surgery with extensive exposure to open, minimally invasive (VATS and robotic), and endoscopic management of the spectrum of malignant and benign thoracic diseases. The subsequent 12 months are spent on the adult cardiac surgery service focusing on myocardial revascularization, valvular disease, aortic surgery, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiac transplantation. The final 3 months offer elective time to permit advanced experience within the trainee’s particular area of interest (congenital cardiac, general thoracic, advanced/minimally invasive adult cardiac, or mechanical circulatory support).
