Additional Curriculum Information

The Thoracic Surgery Residency Programs at the University of Cincinnati offers an outstanding opportunity to train in a true multidisciplinary environment in which seamless integration with the general surgery program, pulmonary medicine and cardiology services among other specialties, allow our residents to be exposed to unparalleled expertise right from the beginning of the program. In addition, our residents develop excellent skills in minimally invasive techniques including VATS and robotics both in thoracic and cardiac surgery. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provides world-class management of the most complex congenital cardiac conditions where our residents are part of the team. We take great pride in educating the future generation of thoracic surgeons that graduate with excellent skills, knowledge and are poised to make meaningful contributions to our specialty.

Unique Program Components

VATS is the standard approach to our thoracic surgery patients. Robotic-assisted procedures both in thoracic and cardiac surgery are well established. Our residents are enabled to obtain robotic surgery certification at the completion of the program. Advanced airway interventions as well as complex benign esophageal procedures are also common elements of our practice.
