This systematic review of the literature evaluated reported outcomes of myasthenia gravis in patients with and without thymectomy. Among over 10,000 patients evenly divided between thymectomy and medication alone, the likelihood of remission was 31% vs 15%, OR 2.44.

This systematic review assessed outcomes of surgery for thymomas treated with open vs minimally invasive approaches. The vast majority of tumors were Masaoka I and II. Minimally invasive approaches were associated with shorter LOS and less blood loss. Complication rates were similar between the groups, as were rates of R0 resection and recurrence

2151 cases of surgery for thymomas were analyzed based on a retrospective EACTS database. Recurrence rate and survival were negatively associated with Masaoka stages III–IV, incomplete resection and non-thymoma histology, whereas adjuvant therapy after complete resection correlated to improved survival.
