LVI is thought to be an adverse prognostic indicator of survival in patients with NSCLC. This review quantified the relationship of LVI and survival. The unadjusted effect of LVI for recurrence-free survival was HR=3.63 and for overall survival was HR=2.38. After adjustment for covarates, these HRs were 2.52 and 1.81, both highly significant.

For purposes of this survey, readers were asked to assume that they consulted on an otherwise healthy middle aged patient with a distal esophageal adenocarcinoma, T1bN0 by EUS. There were no contraindications to esophagectomy.

For purposes of this survey, respondents were asked to assume they had recommended surgical therapy for a 63 year old man who had been diagnosed with a distal esophageal adenocarcinoma, clinically staged as T2N0 via EUS, CT, and PET. His general health was good. He had no prior abdominal or thoracic surgery, and he had no important comorbidities.

A young female with a single metastasis at the level of the upper portion of the sternum underwent surgical excision of the sternum followed by sternal allograft implantation. The use of a sternal allograft provides excellent functional and cosmetic results.
