The lack of an ideal valve substitute in the congenitally affected aortic valve has raised the interest in aortic valvuloplasty by leaflet extensions. Several techniques using native or xenopericardium have been described for aortic valve repair, however, the ideal material for leaflet extensions still remains controversial.

Cardiac surgeons largely have converted to reparative procedures for tricuspid valve disease. Techniques that have been successful for mitral repair have facilitated the transition to repair. This video illustrates current repair methods in 8 patients with a variety of tricuspid valve disorders.

The aortic translocation operation for d-TGV, VSD, and PS was first performed in June, 1983. Since then, the senior author has been directly involved in 24 such operations with one early death.

Demonstrated in the video is a novel concept for facilitating extensive neochordal repair in mitral regurgitation based on the paradigm “respect rather than resect”. Both leaflet tissue and motion are respected. The leaflet is folded and the neochordae is tied, maintaining free margin and annulus edge-to-edge.

In this video the authors demonstrate the surgical strategy for repair of interrupted aortic arch using a reverse subclavian flap and common arterial trunk using an "aortopulmonary window" type of repair in a 3.7 kg baby.

The RV-PA conduit or Sano modification, has recently been reintroduced into the Norwood armamentarium. Many centers, however, have been experiencing conduit obstruction with the Sano. This video demonstrates a modification of the technique used for the RV-PA conduit that has reduced the incidence of conduit obstruction at our institution.

A technique for the treatment of a complex aortic disease is demonstrated in this video.  The aortic arch was replaced followed by deployment of a thoracic stent-graft through the branch of a Dacron graft.

This is a novel usage of an ultrasonic bone scalpel in cardiothoracic surgery used to operate on what is normally one of the most difficult situations that we face, namely the pericardiectomy of a calcified pericardium.

Sir Magdi Yacoub, MD, is a leader in cardiac surgery. He is reputed to have performed more heart transplants than anyone else in the world. In this interview, Dr. Yacoub discusses the Ross procedure, Ross procedure clinical trials, and his trial results.

Professor Craig Miller is a Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Stanford University, and has earned many honors throughout his career. His clinical focus is on aortic surgery, valve repair and replacement, and surgery for aortic dissection. In this video, Dr. Miller discusses valve sparing root replacement.
