The incision enabled implantation of a 25 mm bioprosthetic aortic valve compared to the patient’s previous size of 19 mm.

Valve repair has been shown to be a valuable alternative to valve replacement in mitral valve endocarditis. Yet the result of the repair depends on the experience of the surgical team and the extent of the valve damage. Valve repair should be preferred when technically feasible, but caution must be exercised to assess its absolute superiority in comparison to valve replacement.
