At the 10th Annual International Coronary Congress, Dr. Christopher Lau delivered a presentation on “How to Do a Quick, Safe Posterior Pericardiotomy in Every Case.” He discussed the details of a posterior pericardiotomy, the hardest part of performing a posterior pericardiotomy, and provided an example of a pericardiotomy (on bypass, beating heart). Dr. Lau also examined the factors to consider—on-pump vs off-pump, timing, opened left pleura vs closed left pleura, drain placement; and provided his final thoughts on pericardiotomy.
