G. Alexander Patterson from the Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri, discusses lung transplantation. He reviews the criteria used to select candidates for the procedure, changes in patient outcomes, and opportunities for further improvement. While Dr Patterson focuses on transplantation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, he also discusses pediatric transplantation rates and other indications for adult transplantation.
