In Memoriam: V. Rao Parachuri FRCS, FRCS 1957–2022
Internationally acclaimed cardiac surgeon and respected leader of cardiac surgeons in India, Dr. V. Rao Parachuri, passed away on June 30, 2022. He was an accomplished cardiac surgeon who had many innovations to his credit. He had pioneered the surgical ventricular restoration technique using a rectangular intraventricular patch. He had also pioneered valve repair surgery and was known for his expertise in myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
He trained cardiac surgeons throughout India and worked extensively with various medical groups. Dr. Parachuri trained at the Hammersmith Hospital in England and at a Massachusetts institution. He further honed his skills under the guidance of Sir Magdi Yacoub.
An author of several manuscripts and two books, Dr. Parachuri’s contributions are permanently etched in the annals of operative cardiac surgery. He was a charming, delightful person with a great sense of humor. His reputation for surgical achievement and academic excellence will be remembered for all time.
