Ley J, Gruendl J, O'Hara ML, Shinn JA. Nursing Giants in Mechanical Circulatory Support. January 2021. doi:10.25373/ctsnet.13623113
CTSNet hosted the live webinar "Nursing Giants in Mechanical Circulatory Support" on Friday, January 15, 2021. Jill Ley, MS, clinical nurse specialist at California Pacific Medical Center and clinical professor at UCSF, moderated a discussion on lessons learned with a panel of nursing giants, including Jane (Reedy) Gruendl of CH Biomedical, Mary Lou O'Hara, MSN, formerly of University of Pennsylvania, and Julie Shinn of Stanford University.
This engaging discussion covered a variety of topics, including:
- roles with MCS
- how the VAD team has evolved
- descriptions of "state of the art" management of the MCS patient in the 1980s
- practices no longer seen today
- lessons that might be applicable to future innovators
The live event experienced audio difficulties in the beginning, but the audio improves around the 3 minute mark.
