Right Lower Lobectomy Using the ArtiSential Bipolar Precise Dissector Two-Port Technique
Komatsu T, Gomyoda T. Right Lower Lobectomy Using the ArtiSential Bipolar Precise Dissector Two-Port Technique. November 2024. doi:10.25373/ctsnet.27609510
Given the challenges of accessing robotic surgery, the authors’ thoracic surgical team has introduced ArtiSential Bipolar Precise Dissectors into clinical practice, successfully performing more than 30 anatomical pulmonary resections to date (2) (3). Three advantages of the dissector should be noted: Its fully articulated wristed motion allows for manual robot-like wristed manipulations by the surgeon at the patient's side; its ability to rapidly switch instruments and apply a full range of available video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) devices and staplers; and the surgeon’s presence at the bedside allows for an immediate response to any safety concerns, such as major bleeding events that may require an abrupt thoracotomy (4-6). With the authors’ increasing familiarity with the device, they have successfully advanced from a traditional tri-portal to bi-portal VATS approach in selected cases. This video demonstrates a thoracoscopic right lower lobectomy for a patient with non-small cell lung cancer, in which key parts of the procedure were performed with the ArtiSential Bipolar Precise Dissector through two ports.
