Outcomes of robotic vs nonrobotic cardiac surgery were evaluated using 1:2 propensity score matching of patients in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample. Operations included valves/septae (10%), coronary arteries (47%), and other. Mean costs were 7.5% higher for robotic cases. Robotic procedures had shorter length of stay (5 vs 6 days), lower mortality

Clinical trials evaluating transcatheter mitral valve interventions for severe mitral regurgitation (MR) are complex.

The University of Pennsylvania group, in a porcine model of ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR), compared echocardiographic surface coaptation in two groups of pigs: Those undergoing MV repair with a flat semirigid annuloplasty ring vs. with a saddle-shaped rigid annuloplasty ring.

This insightful paper compares surgery for degenerative mitral valve disease over a number of different "eras." Interestingly, the most recent data in what the authors term "era 3" (2005-2011) demonstrates that patients are being operated on at an earlier stage in their disease- with less symptoms than historic eras.

In this manuscript the authors describe their finding after a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the safety and efficacy of the Mitraclip procedure for patients with functional mitral regurgitation (FMR). Overall, 875 patients were included. Every patient underwent a follow-up of at least 6 months.

This retrospective review compared outcomes for re-do minimally invasive mitral valve operations vs re-do sternotomy in mitral valve operations. The authors demonstrate a similar MV-repair rate in the two groups but a significantly lower bypass and cross-clamp time in the minimally invasive group.
