This retrospective case-control study involving 1852 Hodgkin lymphoma 5-year survivors found that radiation to the heart valves tend to increase the risk for clinically significant valvular heart disease. The rate increased 3.1-fold in patients receiving 31-35 Gy and 11.8-fold in those who received > 40 Gy.

Outcomes of stented bovine pericardial aortic valvular prostheses were evaluated over a 30 year experience.  48% had concomitant CABG and 26% had additional valve procedures at the time of implant.  Explants were required in 1.9% at 10 years and in 15% by 20 years.  Explant rates were 3-fold higher in patients younger than 60 years.  Patient-prosthes

In a prospective study using MRI before and within 14 days after AVR and TAVI, Crouch and co-authors demonstrated that postoperative aortic regurgitation that was higher in the TAVI group had a significant impact on increasing left atrial size and declining right ventricular function.

The authors describe the one-year results of a randomized trial comparing outcomes between transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) among an all-comers cohort of 280 patients.
