Propensity matched analysis of longterm outcomes following transcatheter based aortic valve implantation versus classic aortic valve replacement in patient with previous cardiac surgery

This single-centre propensity matched study aimed to compare the outcomes between patients undergoing transapical TAVI or surgical aortic valve replacement in patients who have previously undergone cardiac surgery. Patients who underwent procedures between 2005 and 2012 were included with 40 patients in each group following propensity matching.

In this study the authors looked at the impact of coronary artery disease (CAD) in a single series of 445 patients undergoing TAVI for aortic valve stenosis. The pre-established primary endpoint of the study was a composite of cardiovascular death, stroke, or myocardial infarction (MI)—at 1 year.
