Dr. Reed et al from the Cleveland Clinic conducted this prospective study to assess whether VerifyNow point-of-care platelet testing could predict bleeding in 39 patients receiving Plavix and undergoing CABG. Patients in higher PRU quartiles experienced smaller decreases in hematocrit and less bleeding.

This study determined the relationship of pre-hospital use of epinephrine during resuscitation to survival in patients who experienced return of spontaneous circulation after out of hospital cardiac arrest. 73% received epinephrine, and 17% of those patients experienced a good outcome (discharged alive with good neurologic status).

This study assessed whether the application of a poly based hydrogel containing amioderone applied to the epicardium at the time of surgery reduced the incidence of post-operative atrial fibrillation. The study randomised 100 patients undergoing cardiac surgery to either receive the amioderone spray at the time of surgery or no intervention.

This randomized trial including more than 10,000 patients undergoing noncardiac surgery evaluated the use of perioperative aspirin in patients at increased risk for vascular complications. The end points were death or MI. The end points occurred in equal numbers (7%) in both groups.
