Transcatheter

December 7, 2014
This manuscript reports on the findings of a meta-analysis of retrospective observational studies comparing clinical outcomes at 1-year in patients treated by either transfemoral (TF) or transapical (TA) transcatheter aortic valve implantation for sever aortic stenosis.

In this retrospective, multicentre study, the authors evaluate clinical outcomes in 139 patients with bicuspid aortic valves undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with either a self or a balloon-expandable prosthesis.

This study examined the effect of the introduction of TAVR on overall AVR rates in the US using the STS and STS/ACC registries.  From 2008 to 2013, AVR rates increased at hospitals performing TAVR by 69%, including a 22% increase in surgical AVR; the latter increase was primarily in low- and moderate-risk patients.  In contrast, non-TAVR hospital AVR

The German Aortic Valve Registry comprises data of 78 centers on conventional, transvascular and transapical valve replacements. After stratification for EuroScore and the German AV score, mortality was comparable with either therapy even for high-risk groups.

WASHINGTON D.C. -- September 16, 2014 -- Use of a dual-filter cerebral protection system reduces the number and volume of cerebral lesions in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transaortic valve replacement (TAVR), according to prospective research presented at the 2014 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics meeting (TCT).

In this retrospective review, the authors evaluate the long-term outcome of 61 patients undergoing edge-to-edge mitral valve repair without annuloplasty ring for degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR). The reasons for not performing annuloplasty were either severe annular calcification or absence of significant annular dilatation.

In this retrospective study, the authors evaluate the effect of preprocedural significant mitral regurgitation (MR) on outcomes of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for sever aortic stenosis. In an overall series of 316 patients, 60 had been diagnosed with significant MR prior to the procedure.
